Center Stage Dance Studio Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome! We’ve gathered answers to the questions we hear most often from our dance families. If you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Registration & Enrollment

When does the dance season begin?

Our regular dance season begins in late August and runs through our Annual Showcase in June. Registration opens online in early August.

Can my dancer join after the season starts?

Yes! Many classes accept new students throughout the season as long as space is available. Some performance classes may have enrollment deadlines due to choreography and costumes.

How do I know which class is right for my child?

We’re happy to help! Contact the studio and we will recommend classes based on your dancer’s age, experience, and goals.

Tuition & Payments

When is tuition due?

Tuition is due on the 1st of each month.

What happens if my account becomes past due?

Past due balances may affect your dancer’s ability to participate in performances, rehearsals, or receive costumes until the balance is paid.

How do I make a payment?

Payments can be made anytime through your online Parent Portal or by cash or check at the studio.

Does Center Stage Dance Studio offer scholarships?

Yes. As a nonprofit organization, Center Stage Dance Studio is committed to making dance accessible to every child. We offer a limited number of need-based scholarships to qualifying families, thanks to the generosity of our donors and fundraising efforts.

Who can apply for a scholarship?

Scholarships are available to families who demonstrate financial need. Applications are reviewed confidentially, and assistance is awarded based on available funding and eligibility requirements.

How do I apply?

Scholarship applications are available through the studio office. Completed applications must be submitted each season. Email us for more information or an application.

How can I help support the scholarship program?

Community members and dance families can support our scholarship fund through tax-deductible donations and participation in studio fundraisers. Every contribution helps provide dance opportunities to children in our community.

Studio Policies

What if my dancer misses class?

We understand that life happens. Please notify the studio if your dancer will be absent. Regular attendance is important, especially once choreography begins, so dancers stay confident and prepared.

Are make-up classes available?

When appropriate, make-up classes may be scheduled in another class of a similar level. Please contact the studio before attending a make-up class.

What happens if classes are canceled due to weather or emergencies?

Families will be notified by email and/or text as soon as possible. Make-up options will be communicated when applicable.

Class Attire & Dress Code

What should my dancer wear?

Each class has a specific dress code and shoe requirement. Please refer to your class information or contact us if you are unsure.

Where can I purchase dance shoes and attire?

Many dance shoes, tights, and dancewear items are available for purchase at the studio.

Performances & Costumes

Is participation in the Annual Showcase required?

Participation is encouraged but optional. Families who choose not to participate should notify the studio early in the season.

Are rehearsals mandatory?

Yes. Tech Rehearsal and Dress Rehearsal are required for all performing dancers to ensure safety and show quality.

When do tickets go on sale?

Ticket sale dates are announced each spring via email and on our website.

Do I need to purchase a ticket to watch my child perform?

Yes. Everyone attending the performance, including parents, grandparents, siblings, and guests, must have a ticket.

Can I exchange or refund tickets?

Tickets are non-refundable.

When are costumes ordered?

Costume measurements and deposits are collected in the spring. Deadlines are communicated well in advance.

Parent Information

Can parents watch class?

Yes. We have viewing windows located on the outside of our building where parents and family members are welcome to observe classes without disrupting instruction.

May I enter the classrooms or cubby areas?

To maintain a safe and organized learning environment, parents and family members are not permitted to enter classrooms or cubby areas during class time.

Can I wait outside my dancer’s classroom door?

Please do not wait in front of classroom doors. The space outside classrooms is reserved for dancers to safely transition, prepare for class, and access their belongings without congestion.

Why do you have this policy?

This policy helps classes start and end on time, keeps dancer traffic flowing safely between classes, and ensures dancers have the space they need to focus and prepare independently. Families are always welcome to observe from the designated viewing windows outside the building.

Can parents speak with instructors during class time?

Our instructors are focused on teaching during class. Please contact the studio by email with any questions, and we will arrange communication as needed.

How will I receive important information?

Most communication is sent by email. We also post updates on our website and social media.

I think I missed an email. Where can I find information?

Email us your question. We are happy to help.

Pointe Readiness

How does my dancer begin pointe?

Beginning pointe is an exciting milestone in a dancer’s ballet journey. At Center Stage Dance Studio, our first priority is always the health and safety of every dancer. Pointe work places significant demands on the feet, ankles, legs, and core, so dancers must demonstrate the physical strength, technique, and maturity necessary before beginning.

Every dancer develops at their own pace, which is why placement is based on readiness—not age or years of dance alone.

Can my dancer request a pointe evaluation?

Yes. Pointe evaluations are conducted by invitation or by request. If you believe your dancer may be ready for pointe, please have them speak with their ballet instructor. We will let you know when it is appropriate to schedule an evaluation.

Can I purchase pointe shoes before my dancer is approved?

No. Please do not purchase pointe shoes until your dancer has been approved by our ballet faculty.

Volunteer Program

Do families need to volunteer?

Yes. Our Annual Showcase and Nevada County Nutcracker performances depend on parent volunteers. Sign-ups are shared prior to show week.

What if I cannot volunteer?

Please refer to your Parent Agreement or contact the studio to discuss options.
